I pray for the holy men of the monastery, and I pray that the Egyptian authorities act with prudence and wisdom if they maintain their claim as the custodians of this holy land.
The Eastern and Western Monasteries especially the Desert Fathers were and still are the repositories and sanctuaries for the Knowledge of the Ages especially the Art and the writings of those who followed and follow Jesus Christ. The human race owes appreciation, thanks and protection for these Holy Sites including the monks who have offered themselves for the care, custody and control of them and who are always praying for all God's children in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
Most definitely it must remain in the hands of the monks. Another example of trying to destroy Christianity . May God protect this most sacred holy sanctuary.🙏
Look up Pharaoh in your Bible, Joseph, and then tell me again how nice and kind Egypt has been to Jews and Christians in the far past, in the recent past and to this very day.
This is just another example of the Muslim need to demonstrate supremacy over the dhimmi, and I wouldn't expect them to protect this ancient and beautiful source of so much wisdom. I hope that Pope Leo will also protest...
This same action by the Egyptian court is the same as it's been in the Middle East which places it in perpetual war. Claims on land and land ownership. This is the same claim that is happening between gaza, or "palestine", and israel. Endless wars for land and resources and people grasping for power. Meanwhile, the people who just reside there end up being victims of these wars or are radicalized by them. What amount of preaching will stop the violence in the Middle East? Islamists know soft targets and will attack them. Islamists worship power as that is how they define God. And as far as I can see, our True God has allowed all this to transpire. This region has been under violence and war even before Jesus was born, when He was alive, and continues to be so. Every one in the area who commits violence or claims ownership of the land claim to do so under God's authority. So? Who has the auhority? Does might make right? Military might in the area definitely affects border disputes in the area. Can Christinas in the area defend themselves? Or are they to be martyrs? As far as I know, only St. Joan of Arc is the only one canonized participating in a military campaign. I don't know of anyone canonized from the Battle of Lepanto. I don't know anyone canonized from the reconquista. I don't know anyone canonized from the crusades. So I guess Christians are lambs for the slaughter? Charles Martel is not considered important enough to be taught in Christian schools or the fact that St. Thomas Aquinas dismantles the claim of islam to be of God. Islamists will spead islam by the sword, from its beginning to its bitter end.
This is nothing but the heavy boots of the Islamist trodding underfoot the sacred places of other faith whether the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, Hagia Sophia in Constantinople, or the church of St. John the Baptist in Damascus. The more these actions wound and afflict the hearts of Christian the merrier the trodding of the Muslim boots.
Thank you Bishop Strickland for all your prayer on this important matter; I wanted to ask anybody knows if this could be the reason why all the images in the mused website (https://mused.com/stcatherines/) are not longer visible? The art work and images that used to be available on the website were amazing, discovering the jewels in the Monastery to some extent has added strength to my Catholic faith, it would be a real shame if this is also taken from all those who can't visit the Monastery. My prayers are with the Monks and people affected on the region.
Wow! I didn't know about the monastery in Egypt! Of course, it must be preserved & kept sacred at all costs, no matter whose land it's on! It seems to me that we're losing our Catholic identity more & more! The Laity & religious alike, must make their voices heard, concerning situations such as this. May our prayers saturate this holy place, so that it may become a beacon of light for all Catholics around the world!
Bishop Strickland, you are a beacon to those of us that continue to pray and love our Catholic faith

Well said.

It most certainly is a dangerous encroachment on the church! Thank you Bishop Strickland for your post, prayers will be said.
